Food, flora and fauna

Sir,

On Sunday, May 20 my husband and I decided to walk to the Pine Café on the old pit area for breakfast as we hadn’t been recently (about 11 years to be precise). It’s a lovely walk from where we live in Mount Street .

When we arrived there we were so surprised to see so many people partaking of the food.

We chose a ‘small’ breakfast consulting of two sausages, two slices bacon, mushrooms, fried bread, slice of toast and egg and hash brown and a cup (mug I should say) of coffee all in the one price. The meal was excellent, piping hot and very tasty, indeed.

There was so much choice you could have all kinds of mixtures together, sandwiches, lunches, and to take away. We were made welcome, they worked so hard the ladies to keep up with the orders.  I’d recommend this establishment to anyone who loves good wholesome piping hot food.

While we were at the café there was a large crowd of Lambretta and Vespa bikes, I should say at least 30, some of the bikes were amazingly adorned, the riders had loads of badges on their jackets. As they gathered to be on their way they reminded me of the Mods and Rockers of years ago – quite exciting really.

We decided after this large intake to walk over the Chase as it was a lovely day. On the walk we saw quite a good number of wild life. We met a goodly number of people exercising the dogs, lots of walkers and runners, even a couple with a new baby in a pram.

There were squirrels, rabbits, birds and ducks on the fishing pools where we saw a fisherman catch a fish. I even found a four leaved clover by chance.

On the football area just above the pools there was a very verbal and hectic football game being played. So if anyone is looking for a ‘faster’ talent it might be an idea to have a peep at these locals. I was surprised to see only one young lady playing she seemed quite good though.

The pools looked really well looked after, also the paths too, so easy to walk for any ability. We are extremely lucky to live near and be able to use such a place of outstanding natural beauty.

Our thanks to all those who make it such a pleasure to enjoy. To the ladies of the café who worked so hard to produce great food may you go from strength to strength. We will you can be sure return again.
